HIDDEN GEM: JG Sandwich Cellar

Friday, November 06, 2015

Ever since we moved to our new neighborhood, I've been searching for good places to dine. I'm so glad I chanced upon this place on Zomato. JG Sandwich Cellar is a British Cafe which I believe have outstanding lunch sandwiches. Their sandwich menu differs each day so you have to check the weekly menu. They also have some items which are available everyday.

It was not so busy when we came in, maybe because it was early in the evening but I'm guessing it gets full around lunch time. What I noticed immediately is the interior, which was quite quirky with mismatched tables and chairs and newspaper clippings on the walls.

I immediately thought of Two Broke Girls when I saw the place. It kind of reminded me of Max and Caroline's apartment.

Meaty Lasagna QR50
The hubster had a Meaty Lasagna, which was oh-so meaty, I think there were only 2 pieces of lasagna noodles in there. But anyway, what we really loved was the gravy sauce that came with the mashed potato. The salad was surprisingly fresh and had an assortment of produce.

Fish and Chips QR50
I had some Fish and Chips, it comes with a side of mashed peas but I swapped mine with... more chips (heehee.) Nothing very special with this dish except for the batter which was really good, but still did not out-flavor the fish.

I would love to try some of their sandwiches or even their breakfast so we are definitely going back to this place in the near future.

The staff were friendly but I think they're a bit short-staffed as the person taking our orders was also the same person preparing our side dishes.

Our bill:
Meat Lasagna - QR50
Fish and Chips - QR50
Orange Juice - QR20
Hot Chocolate - QR15
Total: QR135

  2. I love English sandwiches, I do hope you could also write about their sandwich selections and I do find the place quite homey as well.
