Every few months, we experience a little bit of stress at work and these past few weeks were one those. The last two weeks have been hectic, so I guess it was a very rightful reward to finally have some of my favorite Wasabi Prawns from The Noodle House.

Also, while waiting for the hype to die down at PF Chang's at Villagio, I think this place could satisfy your Asian food cravings, for the time being.


It was our first time to try their Landmark Mall branch, we've previously dined at their City Center and The Pearl branches. I think my favorite would have to be the one at The Pearl, maybe because of the view. All are equally neat and spotless, nonetheless.

Wasabi Prawns QR49

The above photo are the Wasabi Prawns I've been raving about. I'm not sure how to properly describe this starter, all I can say is that you have to try it for yourselves. The best thing I love about this dish is the mango salsa, it is refreshing with just the right amount of spice.

Chicken Satay QR29

Ever since I first tried the Chicken Satay from our ASEAN Food Tour at Katara, I've been keeping an eye out on menus for this. Unfortunately, I was not at all convinced with The Noodle House's version of this famous Indonesian dish. Theirs looked a bit depressing compared to the authentic appearance of the satay, don't you think? Even the peanut sauce did not satisfy both Raymond and I.

Beef Char Kwey Teow QR63

The Beef Char Kwey Teow is flat rice noodles in oyster sauce. The rice noodles were just OK, simple and straightforward.

Cantonese Roasted Duck (Half) QR95

Now, who goes to an Asian restaurant without getting Roast Duck, right? This dish comes with lotus pancakes and hoisin sauce. The duck was tender and it seriously melts in your mouth. There were some parts though, that were toasted and hard to chew on.

If you are looking for a fusion of Asian food, The Noodle House is a safe place to dine. They offer a variety of South-East Asian food from countries such as China, Thailand, Indonesia, etc. They have three locations in Qatar: The Pearl, Landmark Mall and City Center.

Again, we used the Entertainer App for our meal so the Beef Char Kwey Teow was deducted from our total bill.

Biella's always been one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Doha. They have branches at malls which are really very convenient for us, especially if we have errands to run and some grocery shopping to do.

One of the main reasons I love Biella is their mushroom soup. I'm not really a fan of mushrooms, I think it's its texture, but for some reason I love Biella's. I only got to try it by chance, when we first ate here and Raymond ordered it and made me try. If it was totally up to me, we wouldn't have ordered it at all. But I'm so glad we did back then.

In another attempt to make full use of our Entertainer App, we have decided to have dinner at Biella for the nth time. And these are what we devoured on...

Osso Buco QR89

Braised Veal Shank served with Saffron Risotto and shaved Parmesan.

We first tried the Osso Buco in The One Restaurant (read about it here). The Osso Buco from Biella was very different from that of The One's. The texture of the sauce was a creamier sauce and it had more flavour, as if a lot of other ingredients were braised with it. If I were to choose between the two, I'd say the one of Biella's has won my heart.

Olive and herb-crusted Hammour Fillet with rosemary, potatoes & tomatoes.

As usual, I was looking on getting a salmon for myself, but changed my mind the last minute because Raymond was teasing me again on always having salmon (can you even blame me? I love salmon). So when my order came I was a bit grumpy, but that changed when I took my first bite. The crust of the hammour was a perfect crisp and went really well with whatever those leaves are atop it. The only thing that I didn't like is the tomato-based sauce for the potatoes, I'm not really a fan of tomato paste. I think I would've loved the whole dish even more it were only seasoned potatoes.

After watching The Avengers Friday night at Novo Cinema, we headed on straight to Medina Centrale - which felt like Eastwood City to me during my high school days. No, not the present Eastwood City - for a late dinner at Sammach. We wanted to try the fancy-shmancy seafood restaurant and check out what they had to offer.

I was looking forward to something like what L'wzaar was bringing. They did have the same concept except there were lesser menu choices and more expensive food. Of course, like L'wzaar, you can always have your seafood cooked anyway you want but we always stick to the menu because it's always easier for them to cook it and we can try their best dish that way.


It was still cool outside so we decided to dine al fresco. There was another diner in their outdoor sitting who was playing the guitar, which instantly became entertainment for the other diners. As if dining under the moonlight wasn't romantic enough, a Spanish guitar was playing in the background.

The thing about outdoor dining in the evening is that your photos tend to be blurry, especially if you're using your phones. So please excuse my horrible pictures.

Sammach Seafood Platter QR150

We were a bit disappointed when this dish came, not because of its taste but its quantity. We were expecting more seafood for QR150. We were hoping 4 people could share. Anyway, we made do with one order since we had just gone from the movies and had a bucket of popcorn each.

It's basically different kinds of seafood baked together with some sauce. You can choose between cream or marinara sauce. In our case, we asked them to mix both sauces. It is served with stir fried capsicum and mashed potato.

Sayadiyya Rice Platter QR64

We got 2 orders of this dish, made with Sayadiyya brown rice topped with Hamour fillet and fried onions. It is served with a special herb sauce that we all loved.

The whole menu was a bit overpriced if you ask me, but the food was amazing. Of course, the best part of the night was the company and conversation. We were joined by our close friends from church, Darryl and Gen.

The Katara Cuktural Village Foundation has organized the ASEAN Festival in collaboration with the ASEAN to promote the Southeast Asian Countries. It was held from April 30-May 2. I heard about it the last minute, but we were very lucky to catch it on its last day.


The festival included several activities such as cultural shows, tourism promotion, handicrafts and food stalls. Each country had its own tourism, handicraft and food stall & there was a stage where performers from each country could showcase their cultural talents.


We passed by the tourism stalls, deciding to go back to those after the food stalls.

We tried to have a bit of food from each country but unfortunately, we were so full after four. Here are some of the food the we devoured on...

SINGAPORE - Deep Fried Shrimp QR12

SINGAPORE - Thosai with Sambar QR8

The thosai was not on my favorites list, and so is the sambar.

PHILIPPINES - Tokneneng QR10

We just had to go for the tokneneng, as Raymond and I were both missing the street food back home. I was bit saddend by the lack of isaw, but the tokneneng were good enough. They also sold chicken barbeque, chicken skin chicharon, lechon manok, chicken adobo and some halo-halo.

THAILAND - Chicken Satai QR10

This is our favorite from all the food that we tried. The peanut sauce was perfect. I kept telling Raymond how much I loved it even when we were on our way home. And he goes "Yes, you've told me ten times in the past 10 minutes."

THAILAND - Tom Yam (Prawn) QR20

I love Tom Yam soup so we had to try this. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations - they are quite high (read about my favorite Tom Yam soup in Doha here.)

INDONESIA - Cendol QR10

The cendol tastes like the Philippines' maja blanca mixed with buko pandan, that you can drink. It was unexpectedly refreshing.

And after all that food, we didn't have enough space in our tummies to get through Malaysia (they were offering roasted chicken with rice and some sort of refreshment very similar to the halo-halo) and Brunei (who were selling nasi goreng). Boohoo! All-in-all, we paid QR70.

So we went ahead to the stage area to watch the performers.



We were lucky enough to catch the performers from the Philippines. They were a group of dancers from Manila called the Kaloob dance Troupe. They did a performance about courtship and marriage, a very romantic piece.

After all that food and show, we headed for the Singapore tourism booth, as we were scheduled to got there in a few couple of months. The Singaporean lady we talked to was very helpful, she gave us a map of Singapore and boxes of Chicken Curry Paste. Now, I have to find time and try to cook that.

So that was our little ASEAN food tour. I wish I could tell you guys to try and go but unfortunately, yesterday was their last day. Let's just hope that they do it again next year, and try to make it last at least 5 days to a week.
