Paul is a French bakery and restaurant chain famous for their fresh from the oven breads and cakes. We visited their branch in Villagio Mall which has an al fresco set-up (well, it’s not actually outdoors since it is inside the mall but I’d like to think that it was their theme).

After stopping by the supermarket, we decided to have our dinner here since it was the closest restaurant to Carrefour (we were really tired and hungry and the food court was at the other end on the mall). Looking at their menu, you would mostly see breads and pastries. There was a small fraction of heavier meals which was totally fine so we didn’t take long to choose our orders.

Before serving our orders, they offered us the usual fresh bread with tapenade spread and butter.

PAUL is well-known for their breads and cakes but were here for dinner so….

Traditional onion soup served in bread loaf QR35

The Catalan was originally served in polka bread but i asked the server to change it to soft bread.

CHICKEN PESTO PASTA

Grilled chicken creamy pesto pasta QR45

The pasta has that perfect al dente and tastes like it was fresh and handmade. The plate was served with parmesan shavings and some nuts. We both loved this dish so much

MINT LEMONADE

Café Gourmand includes your choice of coffee or any hot drink and 3 mini macaroons. I had Cappuccino and my husband had some Hot Chocolate. This costs QR23 each. I was really excited about the macaroons, rather than the coffee, since it is not very often that I get to have some. The sweetness of the macaroons compliments the bitterness of the coffee so I would say that this combination is just perfect.

Our bill was around Qr200 (more or less) including the bottle of Evian which costs QR19. I didn’t think of it at that time but since we came from the supermarket, we should have bought ourselves some other bottled water.

I’m not much of a burger person, but ever since Shake Shack first opened its doors here in Doha, I have been wanting to try out their famous Shack Burger. My curiosity took the best of me especially when I saw the huge cue of individuals waiting to get a table. Shake Shack is the first of a few sprawling burger joints here in Qatar so imagine the anticipation of the people.

It’s really nothing fancy, but as I've said, it’s the first of its kind in this part of the world.

Reasonably priced Shack burgers at QR25.00, for the single patty and QR37.00 for the double patty burger. The single patty Shack Burger is what we got and rightfully so, because you won’t be needing the additional patty. But what I really like about it is the fresh lettuce they put in the burger.

Those who know me know that I’m a sucker for french fries and cheese. So when someone hands me this two together, I might marry that person right then and there. Cheese Fries at  QR18.00 / Regular Fries at QR 12.00.

And for drinks they have this thing call the Fifty Fifty which costs QR12.00. Named for the 50% Lemonade-50% Iced Tea mix, which tastes like really bland Lemonade. I wouldn’t recommend it. It would truly be easier to just choose between Lemonade OR Iced Tea.

Next time we visit, we might try those Ice Cream Pie Concretes.

So an average meal would cost around QR100 for two people.

Shake Shack is located in Villagio Mall near the Entrance going to the Skating Rink.

We first ate at Nando’s PERi-PERi some three years ago when we first came to Doha, and we still do every once in a while. Nando’s is a Portugese restaurant known for their flame grilled chicken and their special PERi-PERi sauce. The bottled sauces comes in 6 flavors, or should I say levels of hotness.

The Lemon & Herb PERi-PERi sauce is labeled x-mild (for extra mild) is the one I always take. Yes I am a coward. My tolerance for spicy food is at the lowest level. You can buy the sauce in any Nando’s branch. Sometimes they have it at Carrefour and Spinney’s, but it will be safer to go to their restaurants.

Now let’s talk about the chicken…

Nando’s is famous for its legendary butterfly cut, PERi-PERi chicken, which is marinated for 24-hours before being flame-grilled and basted in your choice of addictive Nando’s PERi-PERi sauce.

ESTEPADA

Now if you want a little drama to your chicken, you could try the Espetada. You can choose two sides for each order of chicken. They have a variety of choices from vegetables to corn to french fries. The price is very reasonable at QR60 an order. I would recommend the potato wedges and coleslaw for the sides.

They have 6 branches here in Qatar: Salwa Road, City Center Mall, Bin Omran, C-Ring Road (Financial Square), Hyatt Plaza Mall, and the last one is at The Pearl-Qatar which opened just recently.
